Stating package stackability in your transport enquiry

Whether a package may be stacked affects load space and price – and for sensitive equipment also the risk of damage. So state for each package whether it is stackable and whether anything may be placed on top of it. With this information, we plan the load space to fit, without unnecessary reserve.

The information should come from whoever is responsible for goods and packaging, for example from the manufacturer’s packing instructions. Different containers can have different rules, so record the information per package rather than as a blanket statement. Parts mounted on top, domed lids or sensitive top surfaces belong in the description. Where known, also state the permissible top load.

What do I write if stackability is still open?

Mark the package as non-stackable for now and note the contact who will clarify the rule. That way we plan on the safe side. If stacking is approved later, the required load space may decrease – we then adjust the quotation.

Stating packed dimensions instead of device dimensions

The dimensions on the data sheet are not the dimensions of the transport crate. Load space, handling equipment and price depend on the outer dimensions of the finished package – including case, pallet, handles and overhangs. With measured packed dimensions you receive a quotation from us that still fits on collection day.

Stating the package weight of ready-to-ship industrial goods

Vehicle choice, handling equipment and price depend on the weight of the fully packed package – not the net weight on the data sheet. Crate, pallet, base and accessories can add a lot. With a breakdown per package, you receive a quotation that also works technically on collection day.

Describing special handling requirements

Orientation, lifting points, tipping sensitivity or surfaces that must not bear load: precision equipment often has handling requirements that no one outside your plant knows. We take these requirements into the transport order and align loading and unloading with them – provided they are short, clear and related to the specific package.
