Plan your transport
Create a comparison list: packages with dimensions and weights, collection release, date commitment, handover points, responsibility for loading and unloading, additional services, open assumptions and validity. Assign each line to the version of your enquiry on which the quotation is based. If one quotation lacks the return of an old part, for example, mark the line as open rather than just setting the totals side by side.
Template grid for comparing quotations
A proven approach is a table with one row per service element and one column per quotation: trip from origin to destination, loading, unloading, waiting time rule, extra stop or second drop, return trip or old part collection, date assumption, validity. Each cell contains only “included”, “separate” or “open”. Only then is it worth looking at the total.
Illustrative example without prices
Same exchange spindle, same route: quotation A includes delivery to the ramp, quotation B to the machine in the hall. A looks cheaper but leaves the in-plant move open. Marking this difference as “open” in the table leads to a targeted question and then a comparison of truly equal services.
What matters
- Give all providers the same version of the shipment data
- Mark each item as included, separate or open
- Compare validity and assumptions before deciding
